The USGS is an unbiased multidisciplinary science organization that focuses on geography, geospatial information, geology, biology, and water. For more than 126 years, in addition to mapping the entire United States, the USGS has provided the Nation with innovations in topographic mapping, geographic information systems (GIS), and the public provision of maps, images and digital geospatial data that has shaped the advancement of today’s geographic information industry.
Major products and services of the USGS National Geospatial Program (NGP) include: The National Map, partnership activities, national geospatial technical operations, emergency operations support, geospatial information science research, historical scanning projects, The National Atlas of the United States© and the Board of Geographic Names Secretariat.
