Maps.com Receives Special Achievement Award

for Exceptional Application of Geospatial Technology

Redlands, California-July 2014- Maps.com received a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the Esri International User Conference (Esri UC) in San Diego, California held July 16, 2014. This award acknowledges vision, leadership, hard work, and innovative use of Esri’s geographic information system (GIS) technology.

 

Maps.com uses Esri ArcGIS technology to create maps for a variety of industries including Education, News Media, and custom mapping for businesses. This diversity calls on a range of different skillsets including user experience (UX) design, graphic art and data visualization. The year 2014 saw the launch of the new Field Trip Library product – a collection of virtual field trips for K-12 schools based on Esri’s Story map platform.

International Map Industry Association Gold Award for Best Digital Data Product was Presented to Dr. Tim Rideout, Director of XYZ Maps  

 

Toronto, ON, July 14, 2014 – The prestigious International Map Industry Association (IMIA) Gold Award for Best Digital Data Product was presented to Dr. Tim Rideout, Director of XYZ Maps, at the 2014 British Cartographic Society (BCS) Annual Symposium gala awards ceremony held on June 26, 2014 in Hampshire, UK.

 

The Scottish World Political Map shows the world as it may be with Scotland as an independent country after the September 18, 2014 referendum. The map features political colouring with accurate digital hill shading created from over 80 million spot heights, all countries including 2000 cities, international boundaries, time zones, and a panel showing flags of the world.

 

The map is available on the Avenza PDF Maps app through the in-app Map Store which can be downloaded on both iOS and Android mobile devices. The map is also available in printed format directly from XYZ Maps.

 

On receiving this award, Dr. Rideout remarked, “We hope that this map appeals to both people in Scotland and the near 30 million of Scottish descent around the world. It is a great honour to receive the award and I can say that 100% of our staff hopes it comes to pass! It is exciting to have this map available as a digital product for use on smartphones and tablets in the PDF Maps app.”
