Welcome New Member

Ed Parsons (edparsons.com) is an internationally recognized public speaker on Maps, Geospatial technology, and the impact of location technology on society.

Ed has been featured on broadcast TV and Radio internationally and appeared in the National Press in the UK, US, Spain, and the Netherlands. He was awarded the inaugural “Professional Geography Award” by the Royal Geographical Society in 2024.

Ed was the Geospatial Technologist of Google during its period of rapid growth in Geo, and was responsible for evangelizing Google’s mission to organize the world’s information using geography, and tools including Google Earth, Google Maps, and Google Maps for Mobile. He is particularly proud of his role in launching Google Maps Street View in Europe, developing a new template for geospatial standards development, bringing together the World Wide Web Consortium and the Open Geospatial Consortium, and the deployment in Europe of life-saving mobile phone technology that automatically shares a caller’s location with emergency services.

He was the first Chief Technology Officer in the 200-year-old history of Ordnance Survey, and was instrumental in moving the focus of the organization from mapping to Geographical Information.

Bennett Moe recognized as Clark Swinehart Award Winner

IMIA’s Donna De Marco caught up with Past President Bennett Moe in Columbia, Maryland, USA last month to present him with the 2025 Clark Swinehart Leadership Award. Bennett was given the award, which honors an individual for their demonstrated leadership, in a surprise ceremony via Zoom during the London Forum in May. Congratulations Bennett!
