IMIA Meetup 01 – Melbourne – 28 January 2016
|Bruce McGurty||Hardie Grant Explore|
|Alex Rossimel||John Wiley and Sons|
|Craig Molyneux||Spatial Vision|
Sponsored by Hema Maps and Spatial Vision
The IMIA’s inaugural Meetup held in Melbourne recently was a great success. Approximately 30 attendees were treated to an hour long presentation and discussion by leaders in their fields of online retailing, custom map solutions, digital atlas publishing and mobile map publishing.
The lightening talk format, of 10 minutes per speaker and five minutes of questions, ensured each presentation was focused, informative and relevant. This kept the audience engaged which led to thoughtful and perceptive questions, keeping speakers on their toes.
Audience feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many complementing the speakers and the format.
Pre- and post- talk drinks sponsored by Hema Maps gave attendees the opportunity to network with friends, and importantly, meet new ones. Roughly half the audience were non-IMIA members, which was great to see. The venue was sponsored by Spatial Vision, providing the use of their comfortable and spacious facilities.
The Meetup format allows IMIA to attract new members and demonstrates that we are an organisation committed to the business of maps by creating networking and learning forums for the industry.
The next IMIA Meetup will be held in Brisbane. Stay tuned for details.
