Mapping Leaders Forum: Day 1 Presenters

David Brostuen serves as the Director of the US Geological Survey’s National Geospatial Directorate with executive responsibility over the two largest Science Centers in USGS; The Earth Resources Observation and Science Center (EROS) which includes oversight over both the USGS Landsat satellite operations and science activities and the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center, the USGS’s operational center for their modern topographic mapping mission.  David brings a wealth of both industry and federal government experience having spent 22-years in the private industry engaged in domestic and international geospatial programs prior to transitioning to the USGS in 2009.  David’s office is located in Denver Colorado.

Steve Burry is the Managing Director of Dennis Maps, the largest specialist map printer in the UK and one of the world’s leading map printers. He’s developed his expertise in map printing after spending over 15 years in the industry. Steve’s delighted to present at this year’s IMIA Mapping Leaders Forum.

Carlin serves as the ISSA Denver Recording Secretary and is an active member of the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), OWASP, and IAPP Denver.  Carlin also holds a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certificate from ISC2 and is an ISSA Senior Member.

Georg Gartner is a Professor of Cartography at the Vienna University of Technology and head of the Research Unit Cartography. He is currently president of the International Cartographic Association (ICA). He was Dean for Academic Affairs for Geodesy and Geoinformation at Vienna University of Technology. He is responsible organizer of the International Symposia on Location Based Services and EuroCarto and Editor of the Book Series “Lecture Notes on Geoinformation and Cartography” by Springer and Editor of the Journal on LBS by Taylor & Francis. He serves as President of the Austrian Cartographic Commission, as Vice-President of the Austrian Society of Geodesy and Geoinformation and is a member of the Academic Network of United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management.

Vivien Godfrey is Chairman and CEO of the Edward Stanford Group (Stanfords), a retailer and wholesaler of travel books, maps, globes, and other travel-related products and services located in London, UK.

She began her career working for McKinsey and Company in strategy consulting and then joined Diageo to work in the food and drinks sectors. In 1992 she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and has lived in the USA since that time and is now a dual UK/USA citizen. For 5 years she served as CEO of the GotMilk! campaign in Washington, D.C.

Vivien’s corporate career in consulting with McKinsey, marketing, and general management with Diageo in both Europe and North America has allowed her to develop expertise in strategy, finance, logistics, and brand development.

She graduated from Oxford University with an MA in Geography. Vivien also holds an MBA from INSEAD and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

Vivien and her husband John Mann recently sold their business Bluewater Books & Charts which they owned and operated for 24 years. This business located in Fort Lauderdale, USA sells marine navigation products and services to leisure boaters with an emphasis on supplying Superyachts. She volunteers her time to work for several charities including being a member of the Governing Body of North London Collegiate School located in London and a trustee of the Seven Dials Trust also in London.

Greg Matthews is a GIS professional with over 15 years of experience, currently working at the USGS National Geospatial Program as the UE Published Maps Products and Services Focus Area Lead. He has held various roles at the USGS, including Project Manager and Senior Researcher, and previously worked in GIS management and analysis for the City of Castle Rock and Parsons Engineering.

Greg holds a master’s certificate in Geographic Information Science, Project Management, and a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management. He has expertise in building data partnerships and utilizing crowdsourcing techniques.
